If the Phone Doesn’t Ring, It’s Me

I don’t know, not really anywhere out of the ordinary, but I’m glad to be back. I can say this, I have been reading quite a bit lately. I recently finished a book that my friend Philip sent me from Australia, and I just started reading a book about Fidel and Raul Castro. It’s written by a former CIA agent from the 60’s, who has some interesting details about their early life in Cuba, and where the country will go from here. I hope to someday soon be able to visit Cuba. All the tropcial island thoughts and warm weather prompted me to update the video page. It’s songs from the Buena Vista Social Club/Afro-Cuban All-Stars. I began listening to them around 1999 or so, they are older, I mean older (in their 70’s a lot of them). They are great to listen to anytime, but especially on a warm, sunny day. Speaking of those, it’s supposed to be in the 90’s in Portland later this week.

Our basketball men’s league is going fine. We are 3-2 right now. It’s just fun to play (somewhat) organized games, although I’m worse than I ever was, but they key is to realize that, and just have fun. I’m pretty much even steven. I can get a steal, but then miss a layup. Or grab a rebound, and throw the ball out of bounds on the fast break. It usually takes me about 5-6 days to recover from the games. I am going to see a doctor in late May about my back. I was told before I came here by a Dr. in KC to stop doing physical activities. I listened…for about 2 months. So, I am aware that I am a detriment to myself at times, so hopefully I can learn from this. I do have a plan, which is to be able to compete in a run in Aug, a distance relay race, in its inaugural year, from central Oregon to Portland. Stop me if you’ve heard this one. Basically, it is another version of the Hood to Coast Relay in Oregon, which is the largest relay in the country. So I would run about 3 or 4 times, about 6 t0 10 miles, over the course of 24 hours or so. Playing basketball has only hurt my cause, but it’s so much more fun than running any day. Once that race is over, I am shutting down for about a year.
