What a great game to go watch. I can remember watching all the different Orange Bowl games as a teenager. You see the stadium, and the weather that comes with it too. You watch the teams, not really having a favorite, but still enjoying the games. But to be there in Miami, and to watch our KU Jayhawks bring home an Orange Bowl title, what a great experience. I wouldn’t trade that trip at all. The fans were rockin’ the stadium. It’s certainly an old place, and the parking lot needs a lot of work, and so do the concession stands(there are about 5 different places to eat, and you see them every 100 yards or so), but it’s a stadium with tradition. We were sitting in the upper bowl, in the KU section. Great seats for sure. If I ever figure out how to post pictures, I’ll be sure to put some Bowl pics up. I’ll leave a brief itinerary.
Wed.- leave KC around 2:30. Fly into Chicago, get into Tampa Bay around 11:45pm. From there, we got the rental car, and drove to the hotel(getting lost in the process). Got to bed around 2:30am
Thur.- Leave Tampa around 12:30pm, arrive in Miami at 4:30(which was a nice, scenic drive, lot’s of water and palm trees). Went straight to the rickety old parking lot. From there, we walked around the stadium, stopped in a few shops, got on the local fox affiliate pre-game sports cast(briefly shown cheering with about 20 other ku fans). Before entering, we did see the KU team bus pull up. That was exciting to see them come in. Entered the stadium at 6pm. Walked around for another 45 minutes, seeking a good place to eat. Rumor had it that the first level had better food, but when we went down, all we saw was the same places as the third level. After eating, we found our seats and watched pre-game warmups. The game was just great, we were standing most of the game, which I preferred.
Fri.-After the trophy presentation, we headed back to Tampa. Left the stadium at 12:30am roughly, dropped off the rental car before 5am, and headed to the terminal for our flight around 7:30am. After that, it was on to cincinatti and then KC at Noon or so.

We saved a few hundered dollars by flying into tampa. Was it worth it, not for sure. I didn’t mind the driving, but I would have liked to spend more time in Miami, but since the weather wasn’t good anyhow, it didn’t matter this time.

i watched the game from a sports bar in lawrence (home for the holidays) and then went down to mass. i can say that i’ve *never* seen lawrence so happy and crazy, and i probably never will again. it was freezing, and yet there were people out *everywhere* high-fiving, shouting, cheering, honking, cruising mass. i was so happy to be there with my brother, who, as a freshman at ku this year says “what a great time to be a jayhawk!” and that is one hell of a long run-on sentence…
