Hello to all. I know that it has been a while since my last post. I have managed to keep in touch with several of you, it’s amazing what the telephone is capable of these days. I was glad to hear that most had a nice Thanksgiving. I hope that everyone had the chance to relax a while during the vacation. My mom was in town for 4 1/2 days. We did have a nice Thanksgiving with some friends of mine in the Portland area. We managed to play some fun games, and eat some wonderful food.
As well, we visited Multnomah Falls, although when we left Portland, it was sunny and near 50, but in the gorge, the temp dropped about 15 degrees and the wind picked up. The bridge was iced over, even though several people(including me) disregarded the taped off area blocking off access. My mom did not want to forge on(and probably a good decision, as about 5 or more people fell on the ice trying to cross), so we headed back home. We ate at some good restaurants to add to your Portland eating guide list. On 21st street in the NW, Cha Taqueria has a great bruch, as does a place called Biscuits. Both come highly recommended, good portions, and good prices. We ate at the Portland City Grill, which gives you a nice view of the city from high above. Next time, lesson learned, dinner is rather expensive. The sky was clear one day so we went to the rooftop garden and viewed the city, and the sky was clear enough to see Mt. Hood and Mt. Ranier. It’s fun to drive on the highway too and see Mt. Hood.
So, overall, a good trip for my mom, although if she comes back, she needs to come prepared with warmer clothes and a mindset to walk, since most places in my vicinity are 15-20 min., and it’s hard to park in the city, so walking/public transportation is the way to go. But, she was a trooper, and managed to succeed in terms of making it through. Oh yeah, we also ate at a great spot near 1st or 2nd street off the MAX line, called Mother’s, a restaurant that gets recipes from moms around the world. Another great lunch/bruch/breakfast spot.
